Liza Lou: Splendor in the Grass
Apparently Liza Lou, who has been called the ‘Bead Lady’, (doesn’t even begin to describe what she does) doesn’t like the word ‘obsessive’. So, I’m at a loss here as to what to say. Devotional, insane, visionary, with a lot of time on her hands, what? Every single surface and object in Liza Lou’s jaw-dropping sculptural environments is made from beads. Every grass blade (backyard installation), the water coming out of the faucet (kitchen installation), the beer can lying on the ground. I saw both these installations in person and Iiterally spent hours catching flies with my mouth open, the amount of work put into these was literally mind-blowing. Liza Lou can make anything out of beads. I love what the reviewer has written about her so click to read more. I can’t wait to go find some pics of what she’s been up to lately, my eyes will be filled with wonder.
